Newport's Bartlett Top CL Hitter

The Colonial League batting champion for 1982 is the Newport Navigators catcher Dave Bartlett. He topped all the batters this season with a .346 average with 127 hits in 367 at-bats. In his standout year the 34-year-old Bartlett numbered 19 doubles, 1 triple and 38 home runs with 91 RBIs and scored 103 times. "It's always an honor to win such an award," Bartlett told BNN, "but individual accolades will always pale in comparison to team success."

5-6 Day for Fields

Henry Fields had an answer for everything the Portsmouth Clippers threw him today in the Park City 7-3 triumph at Arcadia Journal Ballpark. He made good contact 5 times and 5 times he drilled the ball for a base hit.
The Park City shortstop went 5 for 6 in the game to put his name in the record book.
Summing up his batting philosophy to BNN writers after the game, Fields said, "I just see the ball and I hit it."
Henry Fields singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
Looking at his stats this year, Fields has compiled a .283 batting average, while hitting 1 home run and driving in 37 runs. He has played in 95 games and scored 36 runs.

Collins Hears from Medical Staff

The latest news from the Capital City Senators clubhouse is this: second baseman Kenny Collins is expected to be out of action for another 6 weeks. He has an oblique strain, sustained on 08/05/1982. Collins expressed a bit of relief. "At least now I know," he said.
This year Collins has hit at a .304 clip with 84 hits, 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 42 runs scored.
