Irondale, Newport Agree to Trade Thursday, July 4th, 1991 The Steelers and Navigators confirmed this afternoon that a trade had been agreed upon. In the deal, Irondale will get 27-year-old catcher Nolan Bird, while Newport will receive 26-year-old shortstop Robert Buchanan and 18-year-old starting pitcher Jefferson Nash. So far this year Buchanan has hit .249 with 2 home runs, 18 RBIs and 33 runs scored. Bird is swinging at a .224 pace on the year with 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He has played in 69 games. |
