Coffman Tops CL with .345 Average

It's official: Jason Coffman has landed the coveted Colonial League batting title for 1987. The Irondale first baseman outpaced the competition with a .345 batting average. In all, Coffman tallied 158 hits, including 33 doubles, 1 triple and 26 home runs. He also scored 71 times and knocked in 65 runs.

Update: Vogel Out 11 Months

The medical report is in: the injury that has kept Irondale starting pitcher Curt Vogel out of action since 08/02/1987 will sideline him for another 11 months. The 37-year-old Vogel, who has a torn ulnar collateral ligament, said he heals quickly. "I'll be back soon," he said, "and I'll pick up where I left off. "
This season Vogel has compiled a 7-8 mark with a 5.86 ERA in 25 starts.
