Jones Goes 5-8 Against Park City (F)
Friday, June 26th, 1992
"It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said David Jones after his 5-hit performance against the Kings. "No offense meant to Park City (F), but it was like I was back in little league again. I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Teflon Field."
The Mount Sterling first baseman had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 8 at-bats and pacing his club to a 6-4 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "David worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Jones said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
David Jones singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, struck out in the 6th, flied out in the 7th, singled in the 9th, struck out in the 11th, singled in the 13th, walked in the 15th and hit a two-run single in the 16th.
This season Jones has hit 18 home runs and posted a .341 batting average.
