213 Strikeouts by Ullrich Breaks Record
Thursday, September 12th, 1991
It was quite a dramatic scene. The Arcadia Journal Ballpark fans on the edge of their seats, and Mark Ullrich on the verge of setting a new league season record. The Portsmouth Clippers ace winds, fires, and gets it -- strikeout number 213! That tops Trent Gore, who was the previous record holder. Talking with the press after the historic game, Ullrich told them, "Strikeouts are great, the new record is great, but I'll take winning the game over them anytime. Striking out ten batters and losing the game is not what it's all about."

This season Ullrich has compiled a 17-7 mark, 2.69 ERA and made 32 starts.
