Torres Packs a Wallop -- Hits 3 HR Against Lions
Wednesday, June 19th, 1991
It was a day for the record book for Liberty (F) right fielder Ralph Torres. He walloped three out of Kraft Stadium against the Lions. But not even a three-homer game could prevent the Knights from losing 11-10 to Kingston today.
"We threw some good pitches and they hit 'em... we made some bad pitches and they hit 'em. That's a good strategy for losing ballgames," the Liberty (F) skipper quipped after the loss.
Torres celebrated nonetheless as his name will now be added to the league archives. He was 4-5 for the day, batting in 5 runs and scoring 4 times.
"I never, ever thought I would hit three home runs," Torres said. "I hit three home runs once when I was 12 in Little League and I thought that was going to be the last time."
Ralph Torres doubled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Eric Frazier in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Eric Frazier in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Chris McIntosh in the 9th.
This year Torres is hitting at a .344 pace with 26 home runs and 64 RBIs. He has played in 68 games and scored 65 times.
