Giants Jenkins Sizzles with Cycle
Saturday, August 11th, 1990
It was a quite a day for Tom Jenkins at M&M's Field! He hit for the cycle, belting out every kind of hit there is in a baseball game -- single, double, triple and a home run. The Liberty left fielder accomplished the rare feat during his team's 11-4 victory over the Irondale Steelers.
He told BNN reporters at the postgame press conference, "I never even thought about hitting for the cycle and what do you know, I did it. The cycle really doesn't matter to me, it is the 4 hits and the win that are important. But I guess it will be nice to see my name in the record book."
Jenkins went 4-5 in the game with 2 RBI and 4 runs scored.
Tom Jenkins singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off José Aguilar in the 4th, tripled in the 6th and grounded out in the 7th.
This year Jenkins has hit at a .282 clip with 81 RBIs, 18 home runs and 67 runs scored.
