Suspensions Handed Out for Bench-Clearing Brawl Saturday, September 19th, 1998 Nobody was hurt in a confrontation yesterday between the Giants Joe Kelley and the Navigators Lowell Wintle as both benches cleared during the fracas at M&M's Field. It appeared that there were a few punches thrown before the players could be separated. Today the league commissioner took action. The league decided to punish the guilty parties. Joe Kelley and Lowell Wintle will each have to sit out 4-game suspensions for their roles in this fight. Kelley's current batting average stands at .279 and he has chalked up 1 home run and 11 RBIs. This season Wintle has made 50 relief appearances, pitched 55.2 innings and struck out 54 with a record of 1 win and 2 losses. He has compiled a 1.94 ERA and saved 0 games. |
