July's Spotlight Falls on Rookie Star Monday, August 1st, 1988 A veritable toddler to the Colonial League, Nolan Bird just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July. Over the past month the 24-year-old catcher for Newport hit .303 with 30 hits, 5 home runs and 26 runs batted in. He also logged 10 walks and compiled a .364 on-base percentage. This year Bird is batting .275 with 103 hits, 16 home runs, 61 RBIs, 33 walks, .332 OBP and has scored 48 runs. |
