Clippers, Navigators Make Deal Monday, July 4th, 1988 Portsmouth and Newport announced some roster changes today as the Clippers acquired 29-year-old first baseman Jorge Sánchez from the Navigators in exchange for 39-year-old reliever Lowell Holmes, 22-year-old starting pitcher Lowell Wintle and $3,000,000 in cash. Representatives from both teams say they are pleased with the deal. Thus far this season Holmes has compiled a 0-1 record, made 34 relief appearances with 7 saves, hurling 34.2 innings and striking out 16. He has held the opposition to a .261 batting average with a 4.15 ERA. Hitting .259 to date, Sánchez has 12 home runs and 44 RBIs. He has played in 76 games. |
