168 Strikeouts by McKinney Sets New Mark
Tuesday, July 29th, 1986
Capital City hurler William McKinney put his name in the league record book today at Senators Ballpark when he struck out his 168th batter of the year, thus erasing the previous single-season record set by Bo Pratt. The historic performance received a loud, standing ovation from the fans and both ball teams. At the press conference after the game was asked the secret of his strikeout success. Always good with an answer, McKinney glibly replied, "I just rare back and throw it!" Strikeout victim number 168 was proud of his achievement, too. He told reporters, "McKinney gave me no chance. He just blew it by me. But its an honor. I'll have another paragraph in all the baseball books."

This year McKinney has a 11-5 record with a 1.82 ERA in 25 starts.
