Big Swap: Roldán for Schultz
Friday, June 20th, 1986
General managers have a very difficult job and it never gets more difficult than when they pull off a huge trade. Today, the Portsmouth Clippers and Irondale Steelers did just that. 26-year-old second baseman Carlos Roldán will be going to Irondale and 33-year-old right fielder Carl Schultz and 21-year-old reliever Tyler Carr going to Portsmouth. "Whenever you make a big trade like this, you worry a little bit about the affect it will have on your team," the Steelers GM admitted. "Will the chemistry still be there? Will the fans approve the trade? There's always a risk, but you have to do whatever you can to improve your team. I think we've done that today."
For the season Roldán is batting .245 with 46 hits and 3 home runs. He has scored 24 times and batted in 25.
Looking at his present stats, Schultz has compiled a .370 batting average in 56 games with a .393 on-base percentage, while hitting 1 home run and driving in 12 runs.
