Thomas Takes Tumble Over Tarp
Monday, August 6th, 1984
"I just need to pay closer attention to my surroundings," chuckled Keith Thomas of the Navigators, after tripping over the automatic tarp at Navigators Ballpark this afternoon. The tarp had been rolled out as the result of a brief rain shower during afternoon practice. Thomas raced out onto the field as the tarp was being rolled up and, after being momentarily distracted, stepped awkwardly on the edge of the mechanism. Having apparently twisted his ankle, Thomas immediately fell to the ground and writhed in pain for a few moments. "It looked pretty painful", said teammate Rich Hodges. Thomas was able to make light of the incident, despite the fact that it might cost him a game or two. "Hey, I'm lucky," Thomas said with a smirk. "Those things can be real death traps!"
