Gilliam Takes CL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Monday, August 1st, 1983
A relief pitcher really has to distinguish himself in order to get recognition by the media, but today the spotlight shined brightly on Ray Gilliam as he was named the Colonial League Pitcher of the Month.

He made 14 relief appearances and compiled 6 saves, 17 innings, 17 strikeouts and a 1.06 ERA. In July Gilliam was 3-1.

So far this season Gilliam has chalked up a 1.60 ERA with 25 saves. In 48 relief appearances he has registered a 5-4 won-lost record and struck out 59 batters in 56.1 innings, while walking 13. He has allowed teams to hit .179 against him.
